Mission: To create “a striking visual display of the growing demand in this country for change—change with how our elections are funded and how big moneyed groups influence government policies at the expense of ‘We the People.’"

A project of Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's and the People Power Initiative, Stamp Stampede is a mass visual protest to help demonstrate and build support for the growing demands nationwide to get big money out of politics.

Current Democracy Work

The average dollar bill is seen by nearly 900 people in its lifetime. By selling stamps (the kind for making an imprint, not mailing a letter!) with money-out-of-politics slogans and encouraging people to stamp every bill they come across, Stamp Stampede is creating “a petition on steroids.” If, say, 10,000 people stamped one dollar per day for a year, the anti-corruption message would be seen over 3 billion times. With this campaign, Stamp Stampede aims to contribute to the movement to get big money out of politics. Along with over 140 organizations, it also advocates for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and other Supreme Court decisions.

Recent Successes

Senators, congressional representatives, local politicians, authors, and actors are among the 50,000 Americans who have participated in the Stampede to get the word out about money in politics. Currently, the Stampede’s localized New Hampshire campaign has sold over 2,300 stamps alone, resulting in over 6.5 million potential views.

Your Entry Points

Set up a Stamping Station at a local business, host a stamping party, and promote the campaign on social media by sharing images of your stamped bills.
