Mission: To support an effective and democratic government.
Democracy for East Tennessee (DFET) is a non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to the preservation of government of, by and for the people—not corporations. DFET has standing committees acting on voting/election reform, corporatism, environmental sustainability, and peaceful solutions.
Current Democracy Work
Democracy for East Tennessee (DFET) understands that wealthy corporate power has influence on elections and government policy. It also sees the connection between these moneyed interests and slow progress by government on climate change and health care reform. DFET therefore runs campaigns focusing on getting big money out of politics by a constitutional amendment to reel in corporations’ power to buy influence in our state and federal governments. It holds regular meetings to discuss these issues to protect and promote democracy, host events to promote democratic reform, and provide resources and assistance to other organizations that also work to get money out of politics.
Recent Successes
DFET has held successful events to educate citizens about the upcoming elections and the role of money in politics.
