Mission: To restore “democratic authority over corporations,” revive “grassroots democracy,” and establish “appropriate limits on corporate influence.”
Reclaim Democracy! is dedicated to informing and empowering citizens. A member of the Move to Amend coalition, Reclaim Democracy! is supported largely by small donors and works to create democratic change at individual, community, and constitutional levels.
Current Democracy Work
Reclaim Democracy! informs and empowers citizens through presentations, articles, single-issue primers, and skill-building workshops. Ultimately, the organization aims to lead a broad-based Democracy Movement for three core legal changes: ending “corporate personhood,” distinguishing between spending and speech, and establishing a constitutional right to vote. In this effort, Reclaim Democracy! focuses on creating positive alternatives, changing language to reframe issues, and building a grassroots movement.
Recent Successes
In January 2010, Reclaim Democracy! and a dozen ally organizations launched the Move to Amend Campaign, which they call “the most serious campaign in U.S. history to revoke corporate personhood.”
