Mission: To enact campaign finance reform that ensures elections are fair for everyone, and not swayed in favor of extremely wealthy donors.
WAmend works on promoting I-735 and getting big money out of politics. It urges the Washington state congressional delegation to put the state on record as calling for a federal amendment to the Constitution establishing that spending money is not a form of free speech, that corporations are not entitled to constitutional protections meant for people, and that all campaign donations must be regulated and publicly disclosed.

Current Democracy Work
Guided by its mission, WAmend is working on passing a ballot initiative to make Washington the 18th state to ask Congress to overturn Citizens United. It is currently gathering state-wide support for I-735 through educating voters on the Initiative and the issue of big money in politics as well as ensuring I-735 is prominent in local media.
Recent Successes
WAmend has collected the 330,000 signatures from registered voters needed to get it on the November 2016 ballot. 88% of the signatures it gathered were collected by volunteers—not paid signature collectors! Across the state, 17 city and municipal governments have passed resolutions in favor of I-735 or against Citizens United. WAmend is working to expand that number ahead of the November election, with more local governments voting on resolutions in the near future.
