Diabetes rates & costs


(1) In 1995, 8 million Americans (ages 20-74) had diabetes. By 2005, 16.3 million Americans had diabetes. By 2010, 20.9 million Americans had diabetes. [FML: between 1995 and 2005-- one decade-- the percentage of Americans with diabetes doubled.]

(2) Today, 1 in 10 adults has diabetes.

(3)The cost of all that diabetes contributes to, including treatment, lost time, disability, and early death, was $174 billion in 2007.
