51 cantons in Costa Rica have so far declared themselves to be GMO-free zones
"After months of protests, lectures, and meetings throughout the country by different groups of activists opposed to genetically modified crops, 51 cantons have so far declared themselves to be GMO-free zones." This tally includes San Jose. There are a total of 81 cantons, so in other words 63% of Cost Rica cantons have gone GMO free. Also, recently, Seralini of the University of Caen in France gave a presentation and answered questions at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), perpetuating the GMO conversation.
