Amount of toxic chemicals released in the US dropped 700 millions pounds (9%) in 2000 from 1999, EPA said. That total had decreased 7.1 billion pounds since 1988 (48%). 27% of these chemicals were released into the air; 4% in water; 69% affected the land.
