From an article concerning a daughter's (Lucrecia Hernandez Mack) reaction to the conviction of a Guatemalan colonel for the stabbing of her mother Myrna Mack in 1990: "She recalls being intimidated by the military officers inside and outside the courtroom last fall. But she also remembers how it was the officers who began to avert their gaze. "They put their heads down," she said. "We know that also has happened in many rural communities. At first, the victims look down, but as they go through the process of discovering the truth, they start lifting their heads up and the perpetrators start bringing their heads down."
