The Movement to Make Organic Food More Accessible
Organizations like Wholesome Wave are working to make organic produce and healthy food more accessible to individuals living in "food deserts". With the recent budget cuts to important programs like Women, Infants and Children Programs (WIC), which affected over 300,000 families, wholesome food has become more inaccessible to disadvantaged single-mother families and the 23 million Americans trekking more than a mile to get food to their table. The recent push for the legalization of urban and backyard farms may alleviate some of this pressure and may help increase availability to wholesome, local food.
