TX and CA are moving towards phasing out junk food in schools due to lack of nutritional value and the propensity for developing obesity, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and sleep apnea. Effort is compared to phasing out nicotine temptation. 30% of CA students are overweight; 77% are out of shape; 98% have diets that fall short of national nutritional standards. Some argue schools depend on income from sales of snack food.
