Smallholder farmers produce 70 percent of food in Africa and approximately 80 percent in Asia &
"Smallholders produce the bulk of food in developing countries, and in many instances their contribution is growing (Koohafkan 2011). They produce 70 percent of Africa's food supply (IAASTD 2009a) and an estimated 80 percent of the food consumed in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa together (IFAD 2011b)."
"Smallholders manage over 80 per cent of the world’s estimated 500 million small farms and provide over 80 per cent of the food consumed in a large part of the developing world, contributing significantly to poverty reduction and food security."
