"A calculation of federal government expenditures reveals that taxpayers paid out roughly US$59 billion to support traditional social welfare programs like housing assistance and food stamps, whereas US $92 billion went to corporations. (The Cato Institute conducted a similar analysis in 2002 and concluded US$93 billion was spent on corporate welfare for the year.)
