System of Rice Intensification reduces methane emissions and increases crop yield


“Changing water management appears to be the most promising mitigation option and is particularly suited to reducing emissions in irrigated rice production. Midseason drainage and intermittent irrigation reduce methane emissions by over 40 percent. Shallow flooding provides additional benefits, including water conservation and increased yields."
