The Alliance for Democracy
Mission: To “free all people from corporate domination of politics, economics, the environment, culture and information; to establish true democracy; and to create a just society with a sustainable, equitable economy.”
The Alliance for Democracy is a grassroots organization dedicated to ending corporate rule of the government, environment, economy, and media. The Alliance is an Executive Committee Member of the Move to Amend coalition, which works to amend the Constitution to take constitutional rights away from corporations. The Alliance currently runs several campaigns that focus on local food and self-governance, fighting the privatization of water, and opposing the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Current Democracy Work
Alliance for Democracy members are organizing at the grassroots level with the Move to Amend national coalition to pass local ordinances that show local support for a United States constitutional amendment that would deny corporations constitutional rights and protections of personhood. These local ordinances put pressure (not legally binding, just pressure in numbers) on Congress to begin the process for such a constitutional amendment.
Recent Successes
In 2013, the Oregon House Rules Committee voted to send to the full House a state resolution calling for a constitutional amendment to clarify the distinction between the rights of natural persons and the rights of corporations and other legal entities. The Portland Alliance for Democracy called on members to advocate for the passage of this resolution, asking the members to call and email state representatives, legislators and senators expressing support. And the resolution succeeded! Oregon passed HJM6-3 and joined the growing group of states to call on Congress for a constitutional amendment.
